Campfire recipes – Campfire Apple Cinnamon Foil Packets

Here’s a simple and delicious campfire recipe for Campfire Foil Packets (also known as hobo meals):

Campfire Apple Cinnamon Foil Packets (Dessert)

Ingredients:

  • 2 apples (such as Granny Smith or Honeycrisp), peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 2 tbsp butter, cut into small cubes
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • Pinch of nutmeg
  • 1/4 cup chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)
  • Vanilla ice cream or whipped cream (optional, for serving)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the apples: Peel, core, and slice the apples into thin wedges or chunks. This ensures they cook faster and evenly.
  2. Assemble the packet: Lay a piece of heavy-duty foil and place the apple slices in the center. Top with small cubes of butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and optional chopped nuts.
  3. Seal the packet: Fold the foil into a tight packet, making sure the apples are sealed inside with all the sugar and butter.
  4. Cook: Place the foil packet over medium heat on the grill or near the edge of the campfire. Cook for 10-12 minutes, checking once to make sure the apples are soft and tender. You can slightly open the packet to check for doneness.
  5. Serve: Open the packet carefully and serve the warm apples with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream for an extra treat.

Tip: For a caramelized finish, leave the packet on the grill for a few more minutes after the apples are tender, allowing the butter and sugar to melt and slightly caramelize.
